Sunset at Sutera Harbour resort Kota Kinabalu

This can be considered as Part II of the earlier sunset posting here due to the lesser pictures policy for the energy blog.

To reach the location, drive straight through Jalan Sutera Harbour until you reach a roundabout. Keep right and at a distance of about 200m away, look out for an area overlooking South China Sea on the left-hand side. Its normally crowded during sunset and you won't miss it.


Welcome to the far end of Jalan Sutera Harbour.



You will not be alone as many others like to hangout here.



This boat is always there in case somebody fell into trouble while taking a dip or swimming too far out.

Spectacular night view of the Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay

Located within Garden by the Bay, the Supertree Grove houses unique trees of up to 16 storeys in height. There are 11 Supertrees embedded with sustainable functions and cycles in energy and water throughout the garden.

This is a night view of the Supertrees from the balcony of Marina Bay Sands hotel. You can see the daytime views here at Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay.

It's during the night photo-shoot that I found out the hotel towers were moving (or rather swaying) as I got short light trails in several of my long exposure shots.

So, it may not be a good idea to shot during windy nights.

Different time, different view

Nightshots at Perdana Park

Welcome to Tanjung Aru!

Perdana Park is located in Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu Sabah and is a relatively new recreational park equipped with rubberised jogging track, fitness equipment for stretching your eager body, playground for the kids, lounge for light drink, and of course musical fountain. For this entry I will share a bit of the night view a.k.a melodious water fountain.

The park in brief:

Don't be late for the kick off. The first few refreshing songs are accompanied by more energetic fountain displays.

"Eh, mau start sudah tapi ada yang mau balik pula"

Snap shot of the first set of the performance at relatively higher shutter speed of 1/80sec and ISO 3200, hand-held.

Sit back and relax, enjoy the 10-minute performance; like them.

It's crowded but that's part of the fun.

Some of the many colours of the water:

6-second exposure and you get nice smooth capture

13 seconds increases your chances of 'catching' multiple fountain colours.

If early evening does not suit you, 8.30pm maybe be just nice for you. Musical fountain display is a daily affair and there are four sets of 10-minute per set performance from between 7.00pm to 8.40pm.

Jog, relax, and enjoy. Be there or be square!

Moonlighting

Sorry about the pun, that wasn't intentional. I don't moonlight. I love what I'm currently doing and I don't have a second job. So, let's just stick to the light emitted - or rather reflected - by the moon.

The bird and the moon

Beautiful I suppose, in the eye of the burung pungguk at least, but this guy is a Rhinoceros Hornbill and believe me it never really was 'right-here-waiting'  for the moon, unlike the poor old owl.

Limited reach of the 24-120mm f/4 is evident in these combo shots. Hand-held with VR switched on.

Suppose the moon never really liked 14th February.

The quest for a really round full moon is still on

Almost there...

The older generation says that the moon is 'late' for work when you can see it hanging around pass dawn.

Shot at about 7.30am, a time when the sky is due to be taken over by the Sun

This was almost a year ago, captured with a 18-200mm nikkor lens. Focal length equivalent to 300mm on film camera/full frame DSLR.

Finally a full moon last week. Good weather, good time but lack the necessary gear. Have to be contented for now.

Ice Breaker

It is because of my passion for photography that this blog was created, and it is my desire to share my thoughts -or rather views (literally) - with the rest of the world that would make this blog more of a "show me" rather than a "tell me" type of info-sharing. Well, hopefully so.

I love nature and I'll start this journey off with a collection of my evening landscape captures.



My very first night-shot when I first lay hand on the D90.

Set the cam to Program AE Mode, put the camera on the concrete embankment and press the shutter. Camera chooses the correct Aperture and Shutter Speed. Simple.



Location: Magellan Sutera driveway, off Coastal highway. Long exposure shot taken after the sun has set.



Location: Tanjung Lipat, Likas. The evening colours were beautiful, tho not totally happy with the shot.
